Chiropractic for kids is not about “fixing” an achy back or a sore neck. It is about supporting their nervous system as they grow and develop.

From The Beginning

The nervous system is the most important system in our body, controlling all others – digestive, immune, musculoskeletal, etc. But did you know the nervous system is also the first system to form in utero.
It begins developing very early in pregnancy and acts as the master control system—directing the growth and function of every other system in the body as the baby develops.

Growth and Development

The guiding force of the nervous system does not stop once the baby is born. It continues to guide and support growth, development, and learning from infancy to childhood to adolescence and beyond. It is important that we look after this vital system with care and focus.
Throughout these years of development and learning, infants, children, and teens face a host of challenges—difficult delivery or birth trauma, trouble with latching, and colic, as well as bedwetting, sleep difficulties, and behavioural concerns. The hurdles listed above—as well as many others—can be caused by, or are the result of, a nervous system that is under stress.

Stress on the System

A nervous system under stress is stuck in a sympathetic, or “fight/flight” response. This hinders growth and development in our kids. Our kids need a nervous system that favours the parasympathetic nervous system, the “rest/digest/grow” side of the autonomic nervous system. Bringing balance back to the nervous system allows our kids to be more adaptable, resilient, and ready to grow and develop on the front foot.

At Mahoney Family Chiropractic, we care for our young patients by making gentle and specific adjustments to their spine and nervous system. These adjustments help to remove stress built up from challenging deliveries and give their bodies the capacity to move past developmental challenges.
